Dust happens, it's everywhere, and when you think about it, it isn't just unsightly, it's unpleasant. According to Wikipedia, household dust is composed of about 20-50% dead skin cells. The rest consists of soil, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, dust mites, and more.
Regardless of the source, dust is unattractive, and breathing it in has potential to be harmful. Here are a few proactive ways to reduce it from entering and settling in your home, and therefore less dusting for you!
Double Doormats

Doormats help capture dirt and debris from tracking into your home. Place a doormat on both sides of the doors at each entry point. And don't forget to shake them out periodically.
Prepare for Paws

If you're a pet owner, you're aware that our four-legged friends often track in mud and dirt. The perfect solution would be to teach them to wipe their feet before coming back in - how cute would that be? Or you could keep a basket with a rag or doggie wipes nearby, making it convenient to clean off their paws.
No Shoes, Less Mess

There's no doubt, our footwear carries a significant amount of dirt and filth. Consider implementing a no-shoes policy for your home!
Purify the Air

Purchasing an air purifier will help remove particles while they're floating in the air. Catch the dust before it settles! There are several options to choose from to fit your budget, from a portable unit to a whole house system. -- Also, don't forget to change your furnace filter! --
Cut the Clutter

Unless you're diligent about cleaning each piece, clutter creates lots of hiding places for dust and dust mites to settle into. Take inventory of your collectibles; maybe there are things you can eliminate or put aside for a season.
What About Windows

Some of us wait through the long winter months with anticipation for the first pleasant spring day to swing open the windows and let the crisp air in! Keep in mind, along with the breeze will be dust, pollen, and other particles. But a quick swipe with a dust cloth is a fair trade for freshness! Otherwise, remember not to keep the windows open too long.
